The October meeting will predominately consist of a panel presentation and discussion of DACA (“Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals”, a USCIS policy of restraint from enforcement action against undocumented immigrants who entered the US as children). The panel will be as follows:

  1. Dr. Cyrus Meshki (JD, Ph.D.)  will discuss the legal ramification of the Act and its potential abandonment of DACA.
  2. Dr. Paris Noori (Educational Counselor) will speak about the ramifications of DACA on College students with the brief history of illegal students getting access to higher education, and becoming DACA students (Dreamers). What kind of guidelines are given to faculties and staff if Immigration officer comes onto campus to locate or remove undocumented or DACA students? 
  3. Dr. Monica Shahbaznia Alvarez (clinical psychologist) will discuss the social and psychological aspects of  DACA and its impact, and its potential removal.

The discussion will not involve either promoting or condemnation of any political party or ideology.  Speakers will each express their opinion, confined to their area of expertise, and based on their professional knowledge.
 

Dr. Cyrus Meshki completed his education at the College of Law, University of Tehran.  Having received his PH.D in Law with Honors, he continued his legal education at Western State University and Harvard Law School.  In Iran, he served as an Assistant Law Professor, Attorney at Law and legal Counselor at the Ministry of Defense.  In the United States, he successfully passed the California Bar Exam in 1989 and has been principal at the Law Offices of Cyrus Meshki, APLC since 1992.  He has published many books and hundreds of articles on legal, Social, and literary subjects.  

 

Dr. Paris Noori is a professor/counselor at Glendale Community College and a liaison with UCLA Medical School, USC Dental and Pharmacy School and a member of The Pacific Coast Association of Prelaw Advisors (PCAPLA).  She also has a private practice specializing in educational counseling.
She received her Doctorate in Marriage Family and Child Therapy, and Master of Science in College Counseling. Dr. Noori has an extensive background of 26 years in instruction, academic, career, and personal counseling.  She has thought classes in student development, career planning, major exploration, study skills, and college success strategies.
 
Dr. Monica Shahbaznia Alvarez is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with a private practice in Family and Child Psychotherapy. Her specializations are Pediatric Psychology and Health Psychology. For 20 years her practice has been based on the ethical principles and standards developed to promote personal well-being, social justice, and mental health. As a Clinical Psychologist, she he patients with professional consultation, counsel, and treatment. These are provided in strict confidence with attention, compassion, honesty, and empathy
